Lovech Region

The Lovetch region has 35 settlements, of them 32 are villages. The town of Lovetch is the regional administrative centre, situated some 170 km north-east of Sofia.  The town of Lovetch is located at the very border of  the Danubian plain and the north uplands of Stara Planina mountain and occupies the  terraces of Osam river. This town is among the few very ancient cities in Bulgaria. The county has a favourable geographical position. Lovech stretches between the plain and the mountain. In the local caves “Tabashka” and “Vassil Levski” are found numerous remains from Old Stone, New Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. The town of Lovetch is an industrial centre, famous for its leathers and leather clothes. The county is producing all traditional agricultural foods,  in particular cereals, fruits, vegetables, meat and milk. The terrain  of the county is that of a glen with wide openings to the north with adjoining hillside.
The region of Apriltzi is tranquil and calm. The cozy home atmosphere of this resort will easily distract you from the hustle and bustle of the town.
In the region there are wonderful places for your vacation, serving as a starting point for exploring the lower basin of the Cherny Osam River. The village is only 2 km away from the Troyan monastery, the third largest in Bulgaria, founded four centuries ago.

The town of Teteven is situated in the Stara Planina mountain, at 410 metres altitude. Only 12 km away is the village of Ribaritza, mentioned earlier. The entire territory of the county lies in the valley of Vit river, and is surrounded by the grandiose peaks of Cherven, Treskavetz and some others, which form the Zlatish-Teteven part of the Stara Planina mountain, stretching to the east of the Zlatish pass up to the low Ribarishki pass. The forests in the county are suitable for walks, hunting, herb, wild fruits and  mushrooms gathering. In winter there are very good skiing conditions in the area of Vezhen, Benkovski, Vasilyov and Haidushka pessen huts. And the Vit river and its tributaries offer good fishing and bathing in the summer. A lot of mountaineers are lured by the beautiful rock formations around the town of Teteven

The village of Chiflik – it is situated at the upper basin of the Bely Osam river in the south-western part of the county of Lovetch. The alpine landscape is very picturesque. Here the visitors can find many lays and biosphere peculiarities, part of the National park “Central Balkan”. Nearby is the reserve “Steneto”, and the forests of the village abound in game – harts, does, wild-boars, fowls and others.
The village of Shipkovo – The village is sited along the valley of Razhdavetz river. The village has moderate continental climate with cool summer and mild winter. The unique blend of deciduous and coniferous forests, the freshness and the ecologically clean environment, the pellucid mountain brooks, crystal clear air, the amazing rock  formations and caves, together with the medicinal springs make it a preferred place for recreation and relaxation.
The village of Ribaritza  has a population of  1300 and is the most picturesque of all the 13 villages in the county of Teteven. The village serves as the starting point for various tourist routes in the Teteven part of the Balkan. Its charm is in the multitude of scattered small houses and cottages, surrounded by flowers and greenery, offering not only tranquility and peace, but a feel of the authentic rustic atmosphere and coziness of the Bulgarian village. Here you can enjoy the living Bulgarian tradition at its home. The reserves of “Central Balkan” and the biosphere's one of  “Tzarichina” attract many admirers of the beauty of nature.
The village of Lessidren is just 4 km away from the “Sopot” dam and its Karst relief is suitable for mountaineering and for enthusiastic climbers.
The village of Glozhene has a unique scenery of grand beauty, luring more and more tourists every year. Some 10 km away is one of the most fascinating monasteries in Bulgaria, founded in the early thirteenth century.
The town of Troyan lies on the beautiful terraced banks of the Bely Osam river and  boasts rich history. Its position favours good communications with the rest of the country, and the Troyan pass with its comfortable road is the linking the town with the southern part of Bulgaria. The town of Troyan is some 160 km away from Sofia.
The tiny picturesque village of Gorno Trappe is 10 km away from it, at 450 metres altitude, and the village of Oreshak is 7 km away.
